Is it Jenty or the o-line?
It all begins with an idea.
The Hype Train Has Derailed
Remember when Ashton Jeanty was supposed to be your fantasy league winner? Yeah, about that. The Raiders' sixth overall pick has been straight-up brutal through three weeks, and fantasy managers who bought into the hype are feeling the pain. Jeanty has turned his 47 carries into just 144 yards and one score, and his five catches have resulted in only three yards. That's a pathetic 3.06 yards per carry that would make even the worst backup running backs cringe.
His Week 3 performance against Washington? 17 carries for 63 yards in a blowout loss. Not exactly the explosive production you draft in the early rounds NBC Sports analyst Chris Simms didn't mince words: "I don't like the way Ashton Jeanty looks. I do not. He has not impressed me once yet. There's a lack of explosion that I think is lacking for a guy that was drafted in the top 10". When former NFL quarterbacks are calling out your complete lack of burst, you know things have gone sideways fast. The kid looks like he's running in quicksand. Whether it's the Raiders' trash offensive line, rookie jitters, or just the reality that college dominance doesn't always translate, Jeanty has been the opposite of explosive. He's been implosive.
If you drafted Jeanty early, you're probably staring at a massive hole in your lineup. The guy who was supposed to be an RB1 is barely a starter right now. The Move: Bench him until he shows literally any sign of life. Don't compound your draft mistake by starting him and watching him put up another 4-8 point performance.
Jeanty might turn it around he does show flashes of talent and he gets hit behind the line 50% of his carries. Rookie running backs have done it before. But right now, he looks more like a cautionary tale than a fantasy savior. Sometimes the hype is just hype, and sometimes top-10 picks are just expensive mistakes.
